We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Hebrews 4:15-16 – For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Luke 5:31-32 – Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

When I serve someone by sowing seeds of kindness:

Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. Matthew 19:4-6 – “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

Key principle: If I want to go where I’ve never been, then I have to travel a road I’ve never been on.

Matthew 22:37-39 – Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Love Is Not Proud

1 Corinthians 13:4 – Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Realize that I have __________.

a) “I am ____________________ than you” pride

Luke 18:11-12 – “The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

Luke 18:14 – “Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

b) “I can handle it ____________” pride

Luke 15:11-13 – Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them. Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.”

1 Corinthians 13:4 – Love is patient, love is kind.

What If: God Isn't Making Me Happy?

God doesn’t want me happy when it causes me to _____.

1 Peter 1:15 – But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.

Romans 6:1-2 – What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
God wants me to be holy ______ happy.

Matthew 5:3-11 – “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven… Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth… Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy… Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God… Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.”

Matthew 9:10-13 – While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

John 15:12 – “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”

1 Corinthians 5:12 – What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church?

Luke 8:38 – “Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.” So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.

Acts 4:29 – “Enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.”
