Love Is Forgiving

Matthew 18:21-35 

1 Corinthians 13:5 – Love is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

  1. Understand what forgiveness ____ & __________. (23-27)

    Forgiveness requires 3 elements: injury, a resulting debt, & cancellation of the debt.

    Forgiveness is not…

    Romans 12:19-20 – Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him.”

    Romans 8:28 – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

    c) … resuming the relationship with no changes.

  2. Cancel the ________ that I think they ______ me. (28-34)

    Hebrews 12:15 – See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

    Luke 6:27-28 – “But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
