Two role models

Today's Reading:  2 Samuel 12:1-13:39, Psalm 69:1-4, Proverbs 15:6-7, John 10:31-11:6

It seems like there aren't very many "Nathan's" in the church today. He wasn't afraid to confront David about his sin because he loved God AND he loved David. Too often today even the most obvious sins are ignored and we talk about how "somebody" ought to say something. Or if we do approach the person, it's because on some level we get some sort of sick pleasure out of tearing someone else down. Nathan is a role model for confronting sin: he simply told David that what he was doing was wrong, showed him the consequences, and told him he needed to change. And he acted in love.

And then David is a role model, too. Even though God didn't answer his prayer and his son dies, his immediate response is to worship. That's a tough choice to make. He didn't let his problems keep him from focusing on God and trusting His purposes and goodness. That's why he's one of my heroes.
